After a lovely summer vacation spent hiking in Aspen with my family, I'm off and running with a new series set in Regency England. As with my Valencourt series, there will be a courageous and clever heroine, an extraordinary dark hero, heartbreak, suspense, humor, and sensuality. I know it sounds like a lot to promise. That's why it takes me many, many months to write a book.
After much research about the time period and my characters' backgrounds (and endless outlining), I'm really enjoying writing the nearly calamitous scene of their first meeting. I wish I could say more, but I don't like to give away plot details until the book is actually published. Given the amount of work I put into a book, it would be disheartening to see my ideas appear elsewhere.
I will say it's so exciting to reach that point in my understanding of my characters that I can actually hear them think. They become so real that writing their thoughts and actions becomes second nature. This is what I love most about being a romance novelist. I can't wait to share more about my writing process with my readers as the story progresses. Hopefully, the book will be finished by January, 2016.
